Lost World Routes

The Lost World was developed by Flagstaff locals Chris Thornley and Rich Ludwig between 1997 and 2000. A few of the routes were established ground up. The Lost World is characterized by a 90’ wall with no ledges or breaks, which is unusual in Jacks Canyon. This wall sports seven 90’ vertical routes, so bring your 60m rope. The remaining ten routes are to the left of this main wall on shorter, but beautiful, stone.
Many of the routes have a typical Jacks start: hard and bouldery, so it wouldn’t hurt to bring a stick clip. The routes tend to be a tad sharper than at Moenkopi, as little cleaning or comfortizing was done. Although the ratings are right on, the taller routes are heady, serious leads, and should only be attempted by experienced climbers comfortable leading at the grade.
Lost World is southwest facing so it makes a great winter area. In the spring and fall, it’s good on a cooler, cloudy, or windy day.
