Take this sign seriously

This photo was taken by John Farrell on Sunday, June 20, 2010.
Looming in the distance is the smoke cloud from the Schultz Pass fire in Flagstaff that was apparently caused by a campfire that was unattended or not put out properly.
Please do not let this happen to Jacks!

tyrolean for this weekend

not sure if the water level has gone down, but there will be a tyrolean set up friday afternoon (march 19) if wading across is not an option. roads should be dry, but it is supposed to rain a bit thursday/friday.

condition report 3-5-10

Canyon was flowing pretty good on saturday. there is no tyrolean set up at this time. a few brave souls waded thru hip-deep, freezing, fast-moving water to casino. if you are up for that, then casino and crackerjack are accessible. however, it did rain alot on sunday, so conditions might worsen. check back for a report later in the week.

Homolovi State Park Closed

A sad day for Winslow, Arizona and all of us.
From AZCentral:
"Homolovi Ruins closed Feb. 22, victim of a state budget deficit that led lawmakers to cut parks funding last year by 61 percent. Homolovi and Lyman Lake were the first in a wave of closures that by June will padlock 21 of the state's 30 parks and recreation areas, leaving people far fewer places to explore the history and beauty of Arizona."

report from 2-15-10:
"4 Wheel drive recommended. Roads were muddy and sticky, but really not that bad. The hike down was the worst part - slippery mud & ice! Climbing was AWESOME!!!!! No flowing water."

Jacks is not flowing at this time, believe it or not.

There is quite a bit of snow on the ground and on the road....the first half of the road is very muddy, the second half is 6 to 12 " of packed wet snow. given the current warming trend, the snow will melt fast.

Crazy Weather

Good luck to everyone weather-wise in the next few days.
Jacks will probably not be very climbable for at least two weeks. Check back for updates.

Jacks Canyon likely to flow soon

Although forecasters are now changing their minds on the severity of the storm systems hitting northern Arizona this week, it is probably safe to say that Jacks will be flowing soon. Don't leave your draws hanging!

Putting up a tyrolean traverse at Main Wall from the bolts of Genesis is best done before the flow starts...hopefully some good samaritan will tackle this. I can donate a rope and biners - email deidre@jackscanyon.com
